in response to NavyVet...X-Corpsman from the `nam era 90% compensated. They cannot help out those that put their necks on the line? I guess I'll join the wall-street protest while they are kicking me out of my home and on the street.
The V.A. will only help you once. They will than tell you that you are on your own. It's a really bad feeling for US. We trust in the V.A. , Jag and the Army. But, they won't help you anymore.
My military base legal dept told us that SCRA is supposed to allow 9 months that a service member had following a deployment to not be foreclosed upon, that is 9 months following active duty deployment. That is incorrect that it only gives protection while you are on active duty, in plainly says, "or within 9 months after leaving active duty"
The new bill through Obama is now being called "Helping Heroes Keep Their Homes Act.
However it seems that most banks are not following it, that is why Chase just recently got sued over it.
It is section 533 of SCRA.
The Servicemembers Civil Relief Act (SCRA) was established to protect military personel serving on active duty from certain debt, ie: providing lower fixed interest on credit card debt, the option of being released from lease agreements and not being foreclosed upon while they were active duty and not available to defend their interests here at home. It does not offer any protection once someone is discharged.
My husband just returned from Afghanistan. he was a reservist pulled for active duty and his job laid him off while he was deployed. Now he came back from overseas and unemployment is not enough for payment and our lender Calvet says their is not any protection for us to get on back on our feet and they want to foreclose.
I thought the SCRA would help us not to lose our home right away but it sounds like it doesn't really help people. Not sure what if anything I can do now. Anybody know about this?

Hi, I have applied to Nursing school at our local community college.
I currently own my home and I work full time. I have applied for the RN program at the college, once I find out I am accepted, I will need to quit my job to attend the program.
Are there grants or loans or Financial Assistance available to pay my mortgage while I attend the 2 year program.
The VA claims that they are no longer representing clients as advocates w/their mortgage companies but have instead provided the mortgage companies a financial incentive to work it out with the home owner. I would suggest you ask the VA what to refer to their incentive program as to determine if the Wells Fargo contact person is aware of it.
have tried almost every thing too and can't get help! Not from Wells Fargo, not the VA no organizations either don't "qualify" or they are out of money. My husband is a Veteran, and we have a 2yr old son, Wells Fargo has already set the sale date to July 16th unless we come up with 5,000 even then I am sure they will hike up that amount. money guzzeling pukes. Claim they want to help but only care about the money they can make! This is sickening!
I have run into the same stone wall. I am a disabled Viet vet declared unemployable by the VA. We have made some bad financial decisions and have also been taken advantage of. I trying to get a loan modification fron Wells Farge, I have been tolf they can do nothing because I am current on my payments. When I tolfd them that the well had run dry and we cannot continue to make these mortgage payments at 9.5 % interet, they said there was nothing they could do unless we were in default. The VA and Hud offered no assistance in getting a loan modification.
I accept my responsibility for my bad decision, but these people need to stop climing they are offering assistance. They claim to not want foreclosed properties bu refuse to do anythin to stop the customer slide into the abyss.
This is nothing but short sighted greed finaced by bailout money these unethical basrards took from the Federal government. These execs are short-sighted leeches bleeding the country dry.
I called this number and followed the prompts.. then the woman told me that VA does not have the authority to help in any way, even if you have a VA guaranteed home loan. She said they stopped doing that a year ago, February, which is funny to me because this announcement (which is also posted on the va home loans site) is dated in June, 2008.
IT is great that there are companies out there to help people that are TRUELY in need and it is too late for any other option. I want you all to know that if you are just now starting to feel the stress of bills and mortgage payments being too high then you need to act right away on fixing the mortgage problem. I am a mortgage rep for a highly repitable mortgage company, you can click on my web site to see which one (i'm not sure what I can and can not say to be in compliance with our company policies). However, this is what I can tell you, if any of you out there need to refinance and you currently have an FHA or VA loan there are some great refinance options available that include being able to refinance without income verification or a credit check. This is huge for anyone that has lost there job or had a decrease in income. Please, don't wait until it's too late to get help. Visit my web page and come to my page and ask some questions. I don't mind just being able to help with answering questions.

"The VA is Reaching Out to Vets with Mortgage Problems Peake: VA Has a "Solid Record of Success" in Helping
WASHINGTON (June 12, 2008) - Many home owners have found it difficult recently to pay their mortgages, but quick intervention by loan counselors at the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) has actually reduced the number of veterans defaulting on their home loans.
"VA is reaching out to veterans -- both those who use our home-loan guaranty program and those who don't take advantage of our guaranties -- to keep people in their homes," said Secretary of Veterans Affairs Dr. James B. Peake. "I'm proud of our solid record of success in helping veterans and active-duty personnel deal with financial crises."
Accounting for much of this success are VA counselors at nine regional loan centers who assist people with VA-guarantied loans avoid foreclosure through counseling and special financing arrangements. The counselors also can assist other veterans with financial problems. VA counselors have helped about 74,000 veterans, active-duty members and survivors keep their homes since 2000, a savings to the government of nearly $1.5 billion.
Depending on a veteran's circumstances, VA can intercede with the borrower on the veteran's behalf to pursue options -- such as repayment plans, forbearance, and loan modifications -- that would allow a veteran to keep a home.
To obtain help from a VA financial counselor, veterans can call VA toll-free at 1-877-827-3702. Information about VA's home loan guaranty program can be obtained at www.homeloans.va.gov http://www.homeloans.va.gov/> .
Since 1944, when home-loan guaranties were offered with the original GI Bill, VA has guarantied more than 18 million home loans worth $911 billion. Last year, about 135,000 veterans, active-duty service members and survivors received loans valued at nearly $24 billion.
About 2.3 million home loans still in effect were purchased through VA's home-loan guaranty program, which makes home loans more affordable for veterans, active-duty members and some surviving spouses by protecting lenders from loss if the borrower fails to repay the loan. More than 90 percent of VA-backed home loans were given without a downpayment.
April data shows that foreclosures are down more than 50 percent from the same months in 2003. VA attributes this to prudent credit underwriting standards, its robust supplemental loan servicing program and VA financial loan counselors."
"This week (June 18,2008) in Jacksonville, Fla. - where the foreclosure rate is three times the national average - officials are launching a campaign to promote the city's interest-free loans. Distressed homeowners can get up to $5,000, which will be forgiven if they stay in their homes for at least five years, said Dayatra Coles, manager of housing services."
"Louisville, Ky., also is giving out up to $5,000 in loans. The loans will be forgiven if the homeowner stays put for a decade. The city has teamed up with the United Way to offer access to housing help in addition to the charity's social services."

"That was before a Philadelphia court decided to step in with this unusual order: Sheriff's sales cannot go forward without a last-ditch effort by the lender and homeowner to work out a deal. "
Please Help! Several years ago while employed as a bus driver I slip and fell down the steps of the school bus. I injured my knee and had to undergo a partial knee replacement. The doctor whom did the surgery left screws loose that damaged my knee more severely. I later found out that I needed to have a revision of my surgery that lead to a total knee replacement. My job advised me that my injury was not job related although I had all the proof. I was told by the supervisor and risk management to resign or be terminated. I then was left with no job and no money. My mortgage got behind and I had to cash in my 403b IRA to make ends meet. My daughter was helping me with all my other expenses, but she was just injured and no longer working so she can not help me. I need help with my utility bills, medicine and mortgage. I receive SSI and it's not enough to cover my monthly expenses. I have hypertention, suffer from depression and have a sleeping disorder. Recently my doctor advise me that I need to have a knee replacement on my other knee. If anyone can assist me with a small donation of $1.00 or send me information with an agency that can assist me my address is 1869 North Congress Avenue West Palm Beach, Fl 33401 or email me at Darryl_lewis@bellsouth.net.
I am a 41 year old wife and mom and I recently lost my job.....I have a disabled spouse and he has been in need of more care than normal as his symptoms are increasing and I was fired from my job as a result of that care. We are now facing possible foreclosure on our home and I am desperately seeking assistance to save it!! We need to find the right people to talk to about my being hired as his continued caretaker. I have been his primary caretaker for many years now and he has complete trust in me. He does not need skilled nursing of any kind at this point and I do not think he would allow a stranger in the home at this point. We also have 4 boys still at home which are in need of the stability of both parents at home and not a stranger in there home. I have worked hard for this family by holding down full time employment, continuing college(which has been set aside for this term), and keeping this family afloat as best I can. Now it has come to the point to where I need help and don't know where to turn?...
I am a single mother with little to no financial assistance from the father of my child and I have fallen behind in my mortgage. Is there any assistance programs available that I could rely on?
I am a 40 year old mother of twins, with a traumatic brain injury disabled husband who works part-time and has mental health issues. I have lost my Medicaid through the state of Missouri and need help with monthly mortgage, and medications for my husband and myself.
